Greenbush Commuter Rail Line Coming Soon

South Shore commuters will soon have a viable alternate to traveling the Expressway and Route 3 by car: the MBTA's long-awaited Greenbush Line will open to the public on October 31. MBTA officials predict more than 4,800 riders a day will use the line, saving drivers 76,000 auto miles daily. The Greenbush Line will serve Braintree, Weymouth, Hingham, Cohasset and Scituate. You can view the schedule on the MBTA's website at http://www.mbta.com/.

I will be interested to see if the Greenbush Line's opening has any measurable impact on Route 3 and the Expressway during rush hours. I expect the drivetimes and congestion to decrease slightly for South Shore commuters, but we will be watching things.
